The materials that make up thermocouples are essential to ensuring that these products are properly matched to the application and provide the highest levels of accuracy. Each thermocouple is composed of two wire legs from different metals, welded together at one end to create a junction. Type K: An accurate and reliable thermocouple, the type K wiring is the most common thermocouple and can handle a wide range of temperatures:


Type J: Also very common, wiring for type J features a smaller temperature range than type K and lower lifespans at high temperatures. This wiring is similar in reliability to type K.


Type T: The wiring for type T thermocouples is typically used in extremely low temperatures settings because of its highly stable nature.


Type E: Wiring for type E is extremely accurate and features a stronger signal than types K or J at moderate temperatures (less than 1000°F).


Type N: These durable thermocouples have similar qualities to type K.


Type B: Type B is of the highest level of accuracy and reliability, and is able to withstand high temperatures and difficult conditions


Type R: This thermocouple has a high percentage of rhodium. It is able to withstand low and high temperatures with high accuracy.


Type S: Similar in composition to type R, the wiring for these thermocouples is versatile, used in both biotech and pharmaceutical applications.
